Collective Motion, the winner of the 2009 League of Young Voters Artist Award, was established in 2006 by current Artistic Director, Jennifer Bourgeault. Collective Motion is a modern, innovative company of artistic dance based in Southern Maine, which embraces and furthers the spirit of the collaborative arts through the promotion of area dancers in roles of both performer and choreographer. The company seeks to be a vessel for artistic fusion, giving equal opportunity to dance professionals working within and blending different realms of dance. The assorted sources of input and the ability for artists to take on multiple roles makes Collective Motion a compelling addition to the Southern Maine artistic community.
Collective Motion has shared their work with audiences throughout Maine at Portland Dances, F.A.B. (Franco-American/Bates) show, New England Dance Project, and Modern Feats. The company have also traveled throughout New England, performing at the Dance Complex Shared Choreographer's Series in Boston. In 2010, Collective Motion self produced “been Here before” an evening length concert in collaboration with the Thorton Academy Dance Festival. Continuing the tradition of an annual evening length performance Collective Motion will produce and perform “V: Five Collective Years of Motion”, commemorating the company’s five year commitment to growing an appreciation for Modern Dance in Maine. |
